    Gary Kotre - Class of 1970

  • Age 56, of Sylvania, Ohio passed away at home surrounded by his loving family under the care of Hospice on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. He was born in St. Clair Shores, Michigan on January 7, 1952 to William and Mary (Teats) Korte. As a high school football player at Harper Woods Notre Dame, Gary received All-American honors and later married the love of his life, Jane Shields on December 28, 1974 in Grand Rapids, MI. Together they raised their two sons, Kyle and James where Gary enjoyed coaching the boys in hockey and baseball. Gary loved to fish and golf and was a University of Michigan fan. Spending time with family and friends was everything to him. Gary will be truly missed by his family; wife, Jane; sons, Kyle (Alison) of Sylvania and James of Columbus; father William E. (Jackie) grand daughters, Alexis and Grace; and brothers, William (Deborah), John (Pam), Timothy (Annette), and Terry (Barb). He is also survived by the Shields Family, the Dames Family, the Black Family and the Schulz Family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary and grandparents, Leslie and Janet Korte.

    Joseph Flanigan - Class of 1958

  • Joseph Flanigan, 68, Naples businessman and owner of the Fifth Avenue Coffee Company, "the sunny side of the street" and Business Development Corporation, passed suddenly on May 5, 2008. Born November 15, 1939 in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Thomas and Nora Bernice Flanigan. Joe had a BBA from the University of Detroit along with many other life-time accomplishments. He loved boating, golfing and people and was devoted to his work, family and friends. Loved by all, Joe will be remembered for his warm smile, sense of humor and generosity. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Deborah; his children, Deborah Borton, Joseph Flanigan, Carol (Tim Rudd) Flanigan and Colleen (Michael) Devins; grandchildren, David and Julia Borton, Adam Flanigan and Timothy Rudd; and his sisters, Dawn Laity and Mary Ann Holden.

    Angline S. Vitali - HWND Kitchen Staff

  • Angeline Simone Vitali, 89, of Eastpointe, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, Clinton Township.

    She was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Columbus, Kansas.

    Mrs. Vitali retired at age 81 after 46 years of employment as a cook at Notre Dame High School, Harper Woods.

    She was a member of the Altar Society at St. Veronica Catholic Church, Eastpointe and the Society of Mary at Notre Dame. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Baker; son, Joseph E. Vitali (Terry); grandchildren, Tom (Carrie) Baker, Julie (Jeff) Wohlfield, Linda Vitali, Joseph (Kristen) Vitali, Nicole Vitali and Danny Vitali; sister, Dorothy Vitali She was predeceased by her husband, Gino Vitali; daughter, Orsoline; siblings, Josie Turko, Susie Wadino, Jimmy Simone, Billy, Luigi and Anthony.

    Age 80. Beloved husband of the late Barbara Sheedy Kelly. Loving father of Sean '83 and Judy (Casinelli). Proud grandfather of Quinn and brother to Rita. In Robert's 39 year teaching career he taught at Austin Catholic and 28 years at Notre Dame High School. He was an avid golfer and lover of art and literature. While retired he was a volunteer docent for the D.I.A. and he volunteered over 2000 hours for Readings For The Blind.     Eugene John McAtamney - Class of 1983

  • September 21, 1965 - March 13, 2008

    Gene was only 42 years old when he passed away at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit after battling illness for an extended time.

    He was a loving Dad to his sons Brady and Shane. Gene is also survived by his parents Gene and Dawn. His siblings include: Janice Sullivan William (married to Patricia) McAtamney, Kathy (married to Ted) Adamczyk, and Chris McAtamney. Gene is also survived by his Grandfather William Toia, 6 Nephews and 6 Nieces, and formerly married to Mary (nee Hartzell) McAtamney.

    Omer St. Onge, S.M. - Former Principal

  • A Mass of Christian Burial for Marist Father Omer St. Onge, S.M., was celebrated Nov. 14 at the Marist House, Framingham, Mass. He died Nov. 10 at Eliot Healthcare Center in Natick at age 87.

    Born in Brunswick, Maine, Father St. Onge entered the Society of Mary at age 19 from his home parish of St. John the Baptist, which was administered by Marist Fathers. He was ordained to the priesthood Feb. 2, 1946.

    Anthony Ciolino - Class of 1973

  • Age 51, November 10, 2006. Beloved son of Anthony J. and Grace H. Ciolino. Dearest brother of Concetta (Kenneth) Walczak, Grace Ciolino, Joseph (Shelly) Ciolino, John (Jean) Ciolino, Dena Marie (David) Bruce. Loving uncle of Angela, Anthony, Christel, Jacob, Grace, Leo and James. He loved his many Godchildren as his own children.     STRASZ, EDMOND T. - Father of Father James Strasz

  • 90, of Reese, died Tuesday afternoon, October 24, 2006 at St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw. He was born on February 5, 1916 in Detroit, son of the late William and Anna (Radomski) Strasz. He served in the United States Army during World War II with the artillery division receiving the Bronze Star. On May 10, 1947, Edmond married the former Margaret Ross in Detroit. She predeceased him in on June 5, 1987. He was employed by the Federal Government retiring in 1973 as the District Directors Representative. Mr. Strasz was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and had served on various boards. He enjoyed his retirement and family. Surviving are his children and their spouses, Thomas and Josephine Strasz of Grosse Point Woods, Fr. James G. Strasz sm of Pontiac, Robert Strasz of Saginaw, William Strasz of Reese, Paul and Linda Strasz of Caro, Timothy and Michele Strasz of Williamston, Jerome and Kathryn of Saginaw, Daniel and Tracy Strasz of Thomas Twp., Joel and Michelle Strasz of Bay City, Diane Strasz of New Jersey, Marjorie Powers of Troy and Debra Strasz of Reese; 15 grandchildren and three sisters-in-law, Ruth Strasz, Irene Ross and Joyce Ross. In addition to his parents and wife Margaret he was predeceased by a brother, Harry Strasz; sister and brother-in-law, Gertrude and Tony Magyar and two brothers-in-law, Robert and Ronald Ross.
